Friday, December 3, 1999 - Join us for Adoptee Rights

On November 3, 1998, the state of Oregon passed the first U.S. ballot initiative in history that makes unconditional access to an adult adoptees' original birth certificate law.  On Friday, December 3, 1999, adoptees around the nation will demonstrate at Vital Records offices to request their own original birth certificates like all other non-adopted citizens.  Please join us at the second annual National Adoptee Rights Day and make your voice heard for adoptee rights!  Most local events are at Vital Statistics offices and are no more than 1.5 hours long.

On Friday, December 3rd, adoptees nationwide will be walking into their local Departments of Vital Statistics or County Clerks offices and applying for a copy of their original birth certificates, just like the adoptees of Oregon, Alaska, and Kansas can. Join us!  Feel free to let the clerk know you are adopted, and that you would appreciate the same rights as all other adult citizens of this nation.

If you cannot travel to the county and state where your records are, feel free to go to where your local action is taking place and support the adoptees going in. Family members, friends and supporters are welcome to participate in the public awareness campaign outside the building. JOIN US!!   If there’s no way you can attend (but PLEASE TRY – we’ll be courting press for the event – numbers count!!!), and even if you can we urge all adopted people to ORDER A COPY OF YOUR ORIGINAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE on Dec. 3rd via mail, fax and phone.  Mail in your letter and call and fax on December 3rd to help maximize the national effort.  TOGETHER WE CAN DO IT!!!

If  you would like to participate consult the following webpage for info.: www.bastards.org/nard/  or email nardlist@bastards.org  .  Thank you for your interest and support.
