By law, adoptees in 47 states have no access to their original birth certificates or vital family medical histories. When these laws were enacted in the 30s, they protected everyone involved from the stigma of illegitimacy. Today, they bastardize the adult adoptee population by denying us information that anyone else can get for the asking.
