STOP LEGALIZED BABY DUMPING IN WASHINGTON STATE!

Write and Telephone the House Children and Family Services Committee and Urge Them to Vote No on SB-5236

SB-5236, which would legalize anonymous baby dumping in Washington State, has already passed the Senate and is being heard by the House Children and Family Services Committee on Thursday, February 21, 2002. Your help is needed to stop this bill in its tracks. Baby Dump legislation was stopped this month in Virginia, and it can be stopped in Washington too!

Phone calls, letters, and e-mails to the Committee members should be sent immediately, as the bill will be heard next week. Let the members know that baby dump legislation has been ineffective in the other states where it has been enacted and endangers the lives of both newborns and mothers. These laws encourage secret births and violate the human rights of the abandoned children. These laws open up the door to the potential for abuse, fraud, and the worst excesses of the past, when abandonment was the norm. State-sanctioned irresponsibility is not the answer!
