BC, AB, SK, MB, YK, NWT, Nunavut Lori Pringle Lori has been involved in Canadopt and the online adoption scene for many years and has a well-linked adoption website. She searched and found several years ago: her birthmother dead, and her birthfather living. Her birthparents were engaged but unmarried when she was born and adopted, and in 1999 she filed a human rights complaint against Alberta Municipal Affairs (Vital Statistics.) When she applied for her original birth certificate she was, like so many of us, denied on the basis of her adoptive status. You can read more from her website linked above. Lori's letters on adoptee rights issues have been published in newspapers across Canada. She is one of the original Bastard Nation members and her writings appear throughout the BN website. Lori lives with her husband in Calgary, Alberta. |

NY, CT, RI, MA, NH, VT, ME Janet Allen
Janet Allen, an adoptee, was the New Hampshire Director for
Bastard Nation before becoming the Northeast Regional Director.
In her personal quest to obtain her original birth certificate
from the state of NH, she petitioned the probate court judge
eight times over a three-year period. A year after being granted
her second hearing, the judge finally released a copy of her obc
to her. In her public quest to give adult adoptees equal access,
she is a founder and vice-president of the non-profit organization,
New Hampshire Open Adoption Records Coalition. NHOARC submitted
HB 449, lobbied legislators and appeared in print, radio and
television. When subcommittee amendments to the bill made it
unrecognizable, Janet and NHOARC stood strong on adoptee rights
and requested that the bill be killed.
In the summer and fall of 2002 Janet campaigned for and won a seat
in the NH House. In December of 2002 she will be sworn in as a NH
State Representative and is the first member of BN to hold a rep
seat. It is her intention to become involved with all NH bills that
pertain to adoption and to promote equal rights for all adult
adoptees.
