here for the fax and Re. S.682/HR 2909 Dear Senator/Representative (personalize all letters!), I am a constituent of yours writing in opposition to certain provisions in S.682/HR2909 - The Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoption. As a/n [adoptee/birthfamily member/adoptive family member/adoption professional] I would straongly hope that people personally affected by adoption would be invited to testify on this bill, rather than adoption industry professionals who make financial gain from the unaccountability official "privacy" affords them. [Personalize with short paragraph regarding your personal involvement/experience with adoption.] I am asking that that those considering S.682 should (i) recognise that adoption is not just about moving infants, but really does touch on the lifelong rights of all of the participants, (ii) to this effect, adoptees and other participants in the adoption process need to be consulted when drafting adoption-related legislation, (iii) what we're concerned about here is the information rights of adoptees, which certain sectors of the Adoption Industry seem determined to presume either don't matter or should be actively suppressed. Most countries already have open records, including countries like Korea and China. Who are we to presume that Korean adoptees in the U.S. should, under U.S. law, be totally prevented from accessing their adoption information? Adoption should be about families and unconditional love - not about property rights and Please consider. many will be watching how you vote.
