Dream up a Bastard Nation Window Display...

If you have a favorite bookstore, ask the owner if you can do an adoption reform/Open Records window display. Rachel Pepper, owner of Bernal Books, 401 Cortland Ave., San Francisco, graciously allowed me to set up the window pictured here. It took me about half an hour to plan and install the display. First, I put together a list of books by our allies and friends, featuring "The Activist Handbook" by Randy Shaw and Patty Wentz' article in Flux. I spread akaSmith's question mark buttons liberally around copies of the Bastard Quarterly and Janine Baer's newsletter, Chain of Life. The focal point of the window was the Bastard Nation Banner, which attracted a ton of curious folks. I posted a one page description of the Open Records struggle and Bastard Nation, and I placed a pile of our pamphlets inside.

Not every community is going to be ready for a full-on Bastard window assault, but even a kinder/gentler window display will focus attention to our issues, invite the public to join the Open Records debate, and spread information about Bastard Nation.
